WHEN DID YOU START COACHING AT CCFH?
WHY/HOW DID YOU GET INTO FITNESS (AND CROSSFIT)?
I grew up very active playing a variety of sports, dancing, gymnastics, and snowboarding. I competed in snowboarding until mid-way through college when I decided to focus on pursuing my career in anthropology/archaeology. I discovered CrossFit in 2010 having just finished grad school and post-docs and looking for a way to stay in shape. I was immediately hooked! It was a great place for to make new friends as I moved to different jobs (eventually coming to Carlisle) and reignited my love for sport.
WHY DID YOU BECOME A TRAINER?
My full-time job is as a teacher, a professor at Dickinson College, and so sharing knowledge is something that I love to do. I also love to learn and improve, so as I sought to become a better athlete, I wanted to learn more about CrossFit. I got my Level 1 and went through the coach mentoring program at CrossFit 717 in 2014, and have been coaching part-time ever since. I’ve learned a lot through specific courses, but probably the most from the great people who have been my coaches. Coaching gives me the opportunity to share this knowledge and help other people become fitter and healthier. There’s nothing better than seeing our members work hard every day and accomplishing their goals!!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING(S) TO DO IN THE GYM?
Honestly, anything in the gym is my favorite! It’s my happy place. My favorite kinds of workouts involve weightlifting and gymnastics. I also enjoy chatting with members and hearing about the fun things they do outside of the gym.
HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR REST DAYS?
My rest days are usually filled with tasks that I don’t have time to do on other days
like cleaning, cooking, and catching up on work things. I do enjoy going out for a nice meal and spending time outside when the weather is nice!
WHAT MAKES YOU THE HAPPIEST WHEN WORKING WITH OUR MEMBERS?
I love seeing our members put in the work! Of course, it’s so fun to hit PRs and get new skills, but those only come from doing the mundane, seemingly “boring” stuff. I love seeing members swing from the bar doing perfect arch-hollows or grinding through some single into double under jumps one at a time. That’s where the magic happens!
