Angi Halvorson CrossFit & Personal Training Coach At Gym In Carlisle Barracks

Biography

WHEN DID YOU START COACHING AT CCFH?
I began my coaching career in 2011 when I started training clients out of my garage gym in DuPont, Washington while we were stationed at Joint Bas Lewis McChord. From there we moved to the Metro DC area and I coached in the youth program at CrossFit Old Town in Alexandria, VA, from 2015-2016. When my husband got stationed at the Carlisle Barracks, I started coaching at CrossFit Perseverance in Carlisle in 2016 and then started coaching at Carlisle CrossFit in 2017 when Perseverance and CCF merged. In 2018 I quit my full-time job as a healthcare consultant when my husband and I bought Carlisle CrossFit. Over the next several years, I spent every day growing and building the gym into my vision of what a professional fitness center could and should be. We are now Carlisle Core Fitness & Health.

WHY/HOW DID YOU GET INTO FITNESS?
I was not an athlete growing up though I did play some sports as a child. I was generally active as a young adult, and joining the Army National Guard required me to maintain some level of physical fitness. However, as an active Army wife, and after two children, I had gained a lot of weight and was approaching the 200# mark. I didn’t like how I felt or looked, refusing to even see myself in the mirror. In 2011 I hired a personal trainer because I knew that despite all the “free fitness resources” available on line, I could never do what needed to be done on my own to feel better about myself. The trainer I hired was doing this thing called CrossFit, I had never heard of it. But she introduced me lifting and high intensity workouts and taught me how to make better choices about my food. I lost 60 pounds in the first year, started to love how I felt and haven’t looked back! Now I have made it my mission in life to help others who need help living the life they want to lead.

WHY DID YOU BECOME A TRAINER?
I became a trainer to help people find a path to a healthier life. I needed someone to help me and I want to make it possible for others to live a healthier life as well.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING(S) TO DO IN THE GYM?
My favorite thing to do in the gym is to interact with our members. I love to hear about their successes in and out of the gym. I love to hear about their families, I love to see our adult members bring their kids in and make the gym a family event. I love to see people reach their goals, get excited about finally achieving a goal they have been working toward for a while. I love the stories of our members who can finally walk their dog without fear of falling because they have been working with one of our trainers, members who can lift dishes up into an overhead cabinet they couldn’t do before working with our fitness professionals. Those stories MAKE MY DAY!

HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR REST DAYS?
I spend rest days with my family, my dog—the gym dog-Rogue, and with friends. I love to garden, read fiction novels and Marvel movies are a family favorite. We may or may not have rewatched the entire MCU start to finish, in order, during COVID shut down. We also love to take our RV out camping.

WHAT MAKES YOU THE HAPPIEST WHEN WORKING WITH OUR MEMBERS?
I love also being a part of our members lives as their success in the gym opens up a whole new world to them outside the gym.
