WHAT does fitness mean to you?
To me, fitness means continually learning, improving, and being able to enjoy life to the fullest. I have found that being active and challenging myself through exercise allows me to be more alert, clear-headed, and happy in all other aspects of my life.
WHY DID YOU BECOME A Fitness professional?
I first became interested in fitness as a young person playing a wide range of sports. I tried to stay active through graduate school and discovered CrossFit as I entered my first job as a college professor. I became a “Master’s” athlete and still enjoy competing in this sport as well as Olympic weightlifting. Through my pursuits in improving at the various elements of CrossFit and weightlifting, I found that helping others improve as a fitness professional was just as fun and rewarding (if not more!). I began coaching group fitness classes, and through development opportunities at CCFH, I learned how to help people achieve their personal goals through individualized assessment, corrective exercises, and balanced weekly workouts. I eventually discovered my love for programming and now have the best job of designing our group fitness class workouts as well as individualized programming for members who want to compete.
WHAT is your favorite thing(s) to do Outside the gym?
I love to travel, especially to places with mountains and lakes. I am very fortunate to work and live seasonally in the Bolivian Andes, on the shores of Lake Titicaca and my family home is in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. You can catch me at the beach or hiking up a hill in one of those two places!
What makes you the happiest when working with our members?
My heart fills with joy when I see one of our members break through a barrier that they have worked hard to overcome, inside and outside of the gym. It’s even better when they surprise themselves and do something they thought they weren’t capable of!
